I’m gonna tell you a secret…

…I have spent 18 months of my life building an app, and I don’t know exactly what it is.

 

 

If you just watched the opening video and are currently scratching your head thinking… what exactly is that?… welcome to my world 😂. These are the top five recurring questions I constantly ask myself:

• Is it a coastal life sim?
• Is it a transition tracker?
• Is it a feminization training app?
• Is it a series of relaxing ambient videos?

Or, the most terrifying of all: is it…

• …a bizarre vanity project about me, my friends and the place where we live?😱

First of all, let’s talk about life sims. While the rest of the world has spent a year and a half bedevilled by wars, the sociopathic delusions of billionaires and the rising cost of living, I’ve been racking my brain over the inner workings of Tamagotchi, Animal Crossing and Civilization. What does it mean to simulate time passing? What does it mean to introduce cost and stakes? How do you do it without it seeming cheap?

And as for the vanity project…

…why am I so determined that it must take place where I live, with the friends I spend my life with, and even my poor bloody dog? Is my life so empty that I’ve decided to create a simulation and put all of you in it? Am I a complete fake who tells everyone I hate social media and reality TV, but actually wants to be the queen of both?

I mean… It’s supposed to be an app for trans girls, so why the hell is it all about me?

Well, actually, now that I think of it, that’s a question I can answer. It’s supposed to be about exploring, understanding and learning about female living, and it won’t surprise you to know that the female living I know most about is my own and my friends’. So at least that makes sense…

Anyway… you may think I’m telling you this as part of the long-established genre of creators sharing their trials and tribulations, but I’m not… it’s because I needed a secret to tell you. You see, Six Beach City is about friendships and secrets, and during your time there, your principal objective is to uncover the 12 secrets that bind me and my friends together. So I just wanted to introduce the vibe of honesty and secrets and self disclosure which underpins the story.

And if you’re now saying to yourself, “wait there, that sounds like the plot of a novel. I thought it was supposed to be a life sim or a transition tracker or a feminization app or a bizarre vanity project, and now it sounds like a bloody Young adult fiction novel!“
